A thief convinced an intoxicated man to sell his necklace, but gave him no money in return for it.
Justin MacDonald pleaded guilty to stealing the jewellery off Shane Tredgett on July 12, this year.
Gloucester Crown Court said MacDonald, 33, had sold it for £92 on the condition he kept £30 as a commission for flogging it.
But Mr Tredgett never saw the cash or the necklace again.
Judge William Hart said the victim was "somewhat intoxicated" when he agreed to the deal.
